We have been talking about building a new community centre.
Through the new facility we aim to reach out to people beyond our parish, to make it a place of gathering, a place of celebration and rejoicing, and a place to grow in friendship with people and God. The beneficiaries of such a centre will certainly be the young people, the various communities that make up our parish, the children in our school, and the wider Avondale Community.
As you know, a Hall Project Committee was set up with representations from various stake holders. There has been the hope that we could get the present hall integrated into the school system. However, the recent communication from the Diocese ruled out the possibility of integration. As a result, the Committee in its April meeting proposed and agreed unanimously that a new terms of reference is required for the committee. It was unanimously resolved that any quorum of the committee will now be making decisions with major decisions being ratified by the Parish Pastoral Council. The preferred name given to the committee is the St Mary’s Avondale Community Centre Committee or SMACCC. We are also aware of the state of Te Whau Hall. The Finance Committee is requested to look at the viability of on-going use of the hall until the Community Centre is complete. I request all stakeholders to join hands in realising the Parish vision of a new Community Centre to be built. God bless.
